Professor Molefi Kete Asante... Writer of Afrocentricity: The Theory of Social Change

Professor Molefi Kete Asante is the writer of over 60 books and, among them, is the ground breaking Africentricity: The Theory of Social Change [2003]. Other books include: The Egyptian Philosophers: Ancient African Voices from Imhotep to Akhenten [2000]; Cheikh Anta Diop: An Intellectual Portrait [2007]; The African American People: A Global History [2011]; and As I Run Towards Africa: A Memoir [2011]. Professor Asante is renowned for his stellar penmanship and for founding the first PhD program in African American Studies.  His busy scheduel presently includes speaking engagements; teaching at Temple University; and running the Molefi Kete Institute for Afrocentric Studies. While I highly recommend ALL of Professor Anante's books, I myself personally, have found some of them rather hard to read and to keep my interests, however, I tend to like less academic books that are easier to read such as ``African World Revolution: Africans at a Crossroads,'' [1992] By the late Professor John Henrik Clarke.  This book sparked my interests in Africa and Africans early on and helped me define myself as having a strong African Spirit.  It also helped me get more strongly involved in liberation efforts going on in my local community in Philadelphia.  My opinions, however, do NOT lessen the historical signifigance or importance of Professor Asante's work. We, as Africans should ALL be reading much, much more and Professor Asante's books are a GREAT jumping-off point.......

I am an African. I hold within me part of my ancestor's spirit. This spirit moves through me.  It nurtures me like rain nurtures the thirsty baobab.  I am forever connected to my elders and my past.  I feel this spirit is not to be bartered by the highest bidder, but used to move me into a future of eventual freedom and prosperity.  This invisible, tangible being is the essence of timelessness.  It holds part of the biological clock of the African Continent and the beginning of human life.  I see it as a part of the future or our youth.

I pray similar spirits help stabilize and nurture Black youth.  Help them become open to learning in the schools and from their parents, their relatives, each other and their communities, their perspectives and the times they live in being so different from that of their parents and mentors.

When I act unlike the noble people I feel most Africans should be I deny my very existence.  The road may not always be easy, but I pray to give and get help along the way.  I work towards my words and deeds being more and more positive each day.  When I move forward I do a small part to step towards the ultimate salvation of humanity and the future prosperity of this earth.  When I move back it must be to recover, learn, grow and bring new knowledge to the Black Diaspora whenever possible.  I must guard against wrong-minded behavior and thinking and be a stabilizing force for myself and others and as much as possible.  I must prosper without giving up.

If I mistreat myself and others I tare at the fabric of our rich Black Diaspora.  This I must not do because I then become only another fragment of what I hope will not become a bleak and distorted mosaic.  Instead I must become part of a brilliant mural of hope and strength with several million parts.  Each unique, connected, aware, powerful and colorful.

It is my opinion that the destiny of many, especially those in the Black Diaspora, will be determined by the weight and seriousness of the work each of us does on a daily basis.

I have no time to not concern myself with the Black Diaspora.  This does not mean a harsh, strict, cohesiveness to any rules of time, law or arbitrary restriction.  What time I spend to be away from the work of serving Black people is only to relax and prepare to face the battle again, full with the eager desire to elevate the Black Diaspora to their proper place in this changing world. 

Writer's Note: From Page 34 and 35 of ``Male Box Magazine'' Circa 1995. This article was written during the very, very short time I was openly using my African name: ``Kokayi''... I am sure you get requests ALL the time for charities and events that are important to mostly non-profit community groups. I don’t want to bore you with all the details of my life, but I have spent 35 years doing all sorts of volunteer work for Black youth; the larger community of American citizens; people in need; and political advocacy. I have served on the boards of a few organizations and have broken ground on reaching out to people who have been difficult to reach or who are somewhat confined in who they contact on a daily basis.

I want to do an Awards Banquette - fund raiser for my organization – The Black Millionaire’s Network. What we do is lay a path for people to follow that leads to financial stability and Black prosperity. We are really in the development stages, but I have been working the plan—which includes getting one’s credit rating in order, preparing to buy property, considering taking classes, formerly going back to school, or just taking workshops and seminars on personal finance and controlling one’s money better—and I have had my personal credit score raised over 200 points over the last seven months. I owe the caterer for the event about $10,500.00 and I owe money also for the costs of the awards and the musical entertainment for the evening of the 23rd of March... [Please see the enclosed budget also.] The event is set for March 23rd, 2013, but can be pushed back further if need be. [It is amazing how time catches up when one is so busy in one’s daily life doing good and constructive works]. I have put about $2,900.00 of my own money into the proposed event which was used to reserve the room at The Temptation Club in German Town and as a Down Payment for the Caterer…

I have attached a resume that Will help explain the hard work I have done over the many years of my existence and help you to know for sure and understand that I am not trying to take anyone’s money for my own use or to misappropriate money in any illegal or inappropriate way. [I had an office from April 2006 to September of 2007 at 3819 Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia, but had to close down and move when I lost a major client, who was my Father, Mr. Charles S. Gibson, for whom I did Real Estate management]. The parent company of The Black Millionaire’s Network is called Brother Tracy Gibson and Associates, Inc. which does mostly Education, outreach and Public Relations work. We have a bank account at PNC Bank at 4th and Market Street in Philadelphia and we have two viable licenses with the City of Philadelphia. We are NOT profitable yet, but are using the event on the 23rd to generate public support and interests among potential clients for both The Black Millionaire’s Network and Brother Tracy Gibson and Associates, Inc. One of the main subsidiaries of Brother Tracy Gibson and Associates, Inc. is The Black Millionaire’s Network which [as We said] is designed to put Blacks, regardless of their station in life, on the correct path to financial salvation and economic stability. We will be working with Black investment houses; Black financial advisors; and Black accountants, not only in the Philadelphia area, but across the country, to help alleviate one of the major problems that Black people face—the correct and appropriate handling of money. We as Blacks often spend millions of dollars of hard earned cash on the lottery; booze; and cigarettes when that cash should be going to our children’s education’s; our plans for retirement; and the upkeep of our properties.

Basically ALL my business interests are about helping disadvantaged Black youth, especially males, but females as Well, get a better grip on reality and end the Bling Bling craziness that often has them clamoring for ``things’’ instead of building better relationships, getting educated and treating their peers and elders with respect and dignity. Often our youth are entangled in the advances of technology, but to no benefit of themselves. They are consumers who make money for other people who only see them as dollar signs. My companies are designed to bring some needed light into the picture and help our Black families deal with reality in a constructive, on-going and dignified manner.

The People's Mandate...

Any Corporation--Public or Private, Profit or Non-Profit, and in ANY way formulated MUST take into consideration All Community standards deemed urgent and necessary by legitimately calibrated and honestly, scientifically and fairly carried out and achieved and orchestrated polls. These polls will be suited to bring forth more justice, equality, fairness and higher ethical standards in the way such corporate entities are carrying out and doing business.  Any corporation or other Profit-making venture or entity or formulation not living up to this rule can and Will be taken over by The People in a good and timely fashion and manner and shall be run by and for the People and in a manner of their good interests and benefit.

Church Service at The Unity Fellowship Christ Church of Philadelphia...

I attend Unity Fellowship Christ Church of Philadelphia at 55 North Broad Street [inside the Arch Street United Methodist Church]. It is a church that caters to ALL of Philadelphia. The core membership is mostly Black and Same Gender Loving {Or Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and or Transgendered}.. We have church every Sunday at 2 P.M. and our service usually lasts until about 5:30 P.M. I hope you will give us a chance, no matter if you are Black, Latin, Asian or White, Straight or Gay or whatever you are. I have found the church to be a very friendly, positive and constructive environment for positive-thinking people who want to get ahead and move forward with changing their lives in a positive Way. We don't let anything hold us back and we rely on each other for support. [Sometimes we REALLY depend on each other.  The MEN of the Choir actually had to give me money for food a few short weeks ago. GOD Willing, I'll make it this month OK] We also have Bible Study on Wednesday at 7 P.M. at the church. We have a lively and open discussion, not only about the Bible, but about many aspects of religion and Spirituality. I have learned a great deal from our Minister Brian, who is young but quite knowledgeable, positive-thinking and Spirited. I love the men and women and transgendered people of our church and Bible Study. We are ALL learning and we refuse to be put down for what we are. We continue to do what we feel is GOD's work. I hope to see you at our service and our Bible Study. We are creating a positive atmosphere for ourselves and others who have been put down by our society. We feel we are the rejected stones who will one day be the first people and accepted by our society. GOD ALREADY ACCEPTS US!!! GOD Bless you...
