Healing the Massive Porn Industry From Bottom to Top...
By Brother Tracy Gibson.......
Those of us who look at pornography and support that industry with Our hard-earned dollars--and there is a strong river of support of the PORN industry Running through the Christian and Religious, Religious Right and or Spiritual community throughout North America including Down South--WE need to come clean and let our friends and family [but NOT our children under the the age of 15--know what we are doing. The honesty Will be refreshing and helpful with you becoming more honest with yourself on many fronts and in many Ways. Apply your strong religious values to your obsessive sexual desires and know that GOD, The Creator and Our African Ancestors, still LOVes you and LOVes us. I think as sexual beings WE have to remember GOD created our libido also. He or She wants us to have a sexual side, not just to procreate, but as part of the enjoyment, excitement, LOVe and desire that adds great spice and a kick to life. Just keep it cool and try, for now, not to be obsessive, but accept yourself and LOVE yourself and GOD, by ALL means. Don't feel judged from above and don't let others judge you. Basically they are no better than you are, because there is something about themselves they are hiding as Well. If Pastors, Reverends and other Church elders are judging you, know they need to do What Michael Jackson said to do several years before His untimely death--and look at the Man in the Mirror...
The Other Day I sat down and came clean with the Lord. I wrote an eight page letter to Gaudenzia House--a place in Philadelphia that helps people with mostly drug and alcohol addictions. I told them I need help with the pornography addiction I have had for about 20 years. [It all started in My Father's basement when me and My cousin Leslie would hunt for all sorts of things. We discovered a stash of old Sexology magazines and abruptly began our journey into adulthood. Later we would discover other porn magazines as well.] I also told Gaudenzia House I need help with the food addiction I have as well as with my high anger and frustration level at being so destitute, as far as I know, financially. [I have been eating at soup kitchens because my business efforts and quest to find employment as a consultant have failed.] I need help with the way I obsess about sex and sexuality. These are the inner demons I am fighting. What I wrote to Gaudenzia House was highly emotional, based on raw feelings and emotion and I felt naked--like the man in the mirror. I felt ashamed and hungry for healing. I am praying Gaudenzia House writes me back or calls and are able to give me some help. I am tired of the led weight of My addictions dragging me down when I have so much work to do and people to help on a host of issues each and every day. It is odd how even with 30 plus years of therapy, I still have a host of other areas needing to be worked on. I'll have something for sure to talk with my theaipist about when I see Her in APril!!!...
But what I wanted to talk about today is PORNOGRAPHY and how man, many North Americans need to heal from it. It is pervasive and literally billions of dollars are made from it. I don't think anyone can erase the porn industry and put the Genie back in the bottle. What we can do is demand more choices from the industry. And if those choices are NOT forthcoming, we can, as creative people, as a creative community, make film that bridges the gap between legitimate film and PORNOGRAPHY. What am I talking about... I'm talking about starting a new gerund in film that is aesthetic, but also sexually explicit, but not JUST in a titillating way, but in an EDUCATIONAL WAY as well. I think we can ALL agree that we need to take sexual education back off the streets where it is filled with sexual innuendo, misinformation, sexual abuse, rape, sodomy, silliness, game-playing and more abuse. The subject of sexual education is a serious one that needs to e explored, examined and taken to task by our bet community activists, community organizers, businessmen and business women, visionaries, thinkers and our best Black minds. [Just as an aside I will let you know that I attempted to organize a conference on sexuality for this year with two other activist [Mr. Bey and Ms. Letterer]... These two people were kind and visionary enough to meet with me a few times, but we were all so busy that we just couldn't get it all together and there seemed to be little or no funding available.]
My Own Personal Film Vision: Two Black Gay men walking through an island setting nude. One with an exotic wild flower in His hair. They are holding hands and they stop and kiss from time to time. We hear them talking about life in general and how much they LOVe each other. How they want to spend their lives together in a monogamous relationship. How they want to live on this island for a generation and LOVe each other until time is no more. There are exotic island birds like the tukon fluttering overhead and there are all sorts of exotic plants and a few animals. One of the Brothers is holding a bag. He takes out a colorful blanket and drapes it on the ground. As the two Brothers, caught in romance, lay down, they spend more time talking and getting to know each other. Slowly and with caring and concern for each other, they begin to make LOVe to each other.
This to me is the start of a new gerund of film that will be both popular, commercial, successful among the PORNOGRAPHY crowd and helpful as Brothers who are Gay begin a healing process that allows them to be who they are in a safe space and with dignity and pride. I find, in talking with people, that ``just getting your rocks off'' in very unfurfilling, European in scope, limiting, boring and not what many people envision sex, sexuality and reaching true intimacy should be about. Many people among the Gay culture want more. They want to filled whole, fulfilled, LOVed, open, accepted sexually and they want to feel able to reach a true and deep level of real intimacy with a special person. In the age we live in sex with many partners to just reach orgasism and move on has about had it's day. Welcome to the thinking man's guide to PORNOGRAPHY and taking a short, but whole new look at what PORNOGRAPHY can be. Safe sex is a MUST. No sex without condoms unless we do NOT enter each other or share body fluids in any Way. No aggressive slapping, calling each other the N word, or being abusive to your mate or partner in any way. No cursing. Finding LOVe words instead. Finding open hearts. Open minds. Actual caressing and sharing is the rule instead of the exception........for starters an existing example.....
There is a segment of the Black Adult film ``Take Em Down Two'' that features two attractive Black men who must have been Lovers in real life long before the cameras started rolling. Slayer and Juice, the two gentlemen featured in the segment, didn't slap each other on the butt, call each other the ``N'' Word or otherwise physically or verbally abuse each other. What they do is make Love to each other in one of the most tender, Loving and intimate sexual exchanges I have ever seen depicted on screen. They authentically seemed to care about each other as they used condoms in most scenes and take time and patience with each other in a Way I have never, ever seen present between two men before. The thoughtfulness and kindness that goes into each scene is something other adult film directors should and MUST take note of. So many new adult male films for the Black male audience show such a high level of abuse and disregard for the actors that I really can't bare to watch them. There are whole segments of Gay adult porn for Black men that I will NOT purchase or buy. There is just far too much recklessness as men enter each other without using condoms and hit and slap and curse one another repeatedly and consistently. Slayer and Juice have an extraordinary sense of patience and LOVe with one another. They have a sense of perfect timing and there is no intimidation between or among them. Such tender interactions are very much needed as We face some stipulations regarding the bedroom that need to be dealt with in a more honest, wholesome and truthful manner. The days for sleeping with three different partners or men within a six month period for Black Gay Men needs to be put to Rest forever. We, as Black Gay Men, need to take our time and get to know each and every man we become intimate with for at lease a month before we enter into any Level of intimacy with such a partner. Such things, in this Year of Our Lord 2013, cannot be legislated, but We Must come to terms with the consequences of sharing our bodies with too many partners. I predict that as marriage equality becomes more popular and advantages of the U.S. military's and Congress' recent rejection of Don't Ask Don't Tell hit home--it Will become more radially evident that a more reasonable history of who we share out beds with is the only path that makes good honest truthful sense.
By some estimations, 85 % of what goes on, on the Internet has to do with pornography. It is a vast world of executives, mob figures, money, police, web sites, prostitutes, film making and prosecutors [who sometimes look the other way], models, ``actors’’ and the everyday citizens like you and me, who support the porn system with our hard-earned dollars and buy the DVD's. By the way, back in the 1980’s they were saying that pornography was responsible for more gross receipts [If I may use a pun] than all three networks combined. That’s several billion dollars. The amount of profits from pornography has grown signigantly over the last 40 years.
The section of the porn industry loosely [If I may use a pun again] called ``Gay porn’’ is one of the fastest growing and most lucrative. The funny thing is, they are selling ``Gay Porn’’ in little townships and villages in the rural South as well as in Big Cities like New York's Manhattan, Harlem Philadelphia and Detroit. That’s right, even the so-called Bible-Belt is into pornography, although you would never know it from their consistent Conservative ``RED STATE’’ status and outwardly conservative social underpinnings that the so-called Bible-Belt exemplifies in the Main Stream White Goliath media...
Within the ``Gay Porn’’ industry there exists a sub gerund called ``Black Gay Porn,’’ a sub gerund, but a very viable and lucrative one. Millions of people across the U.S., not only Black Gay males, are interested in buying and enjoying Black Gay pornography. Thus, as you might imagine, this sub-gerund is also lucrative and features many, many of the Big Black names in porn with porn stars such as: ``The little Israeli Boy,'' ``Mr. Buck,'' ``Black Ice,'' ``DyLLan,'' ``Sir Cream,' ``Supreme / Castro,’’ ``Maze,'' ``Vivid,'' ``Nubia,’’ ``KB, {Who I adore}'' ``T-Malone, {Fantastic Ass}’’ ``Ocean,'' ``Jovonnie, {A Bottom and a Top with skills in both areas}'' ``Osian, {I have NEVER seen a man who loves to take it Like this Man does}'' ``Shaft,’’ ``Redd,’’ ``Shawn Legend,’’ ``Bronz Star,’’ ``Sho-Nuff, {Very Handsome, Very Skilled}’’ ``Black Ice,'' ``Altrique,'' ``Rudy Scott,{This Brother is a Bit harsh, But He sure is Sexy}'' ``Maze,'' ``Vivid,'' and ''VENOM'' just to name a few.
These Black Men are out to make a living. They take their clothing off whereas we put clothing on to go to work and make a living. One could say an honest year's pay is an honest year's pay, regardless if one is putting clothing on like a nice dress suite for women or a nice Brooks Brothers suite for men--it is still striving to make ends meet in a world with a shaky economy in many Western Nations like the U.S.. Work is Work...
An Aside:
{I for One, DON'T Condone prostitution nor do I think it should be condoned by our government. I also don't think prostitution should be legalized like it is in Las Vegas. Legalizing prostitution is just another avenue for Big Business to get off the hook of creating the legitimate jobs that People really need. And developing a properly schooled and skilled populace and electorate in our Nation. It also helps allow our other institutions such as schools, institutions of Higher Education and various arms of the government to allow ``certain sectors'' of our population to go unskilled and not even thought of as a legitimate entity as long as they are satisfing the prurient interests of the rest of us, including the rich and powerful--who definitely get their fill of prostitution. It MUST also be pointed out that many, many porn stars and people who are ``actors'' in the porn industry are also prostitutes or hustlers who sell time with them to pleasure ``customers''.}
When we buy pornography, and I have quite a collection myself, we further legitimize the industry--even though it continues to be an underground industry with mysterious financing, shady figures and characters, connections to organized crime, and a lot--a whole lot of money and profits. One thing I do, to justify my sanctified soul and my strong positive spiritual sense and base, is to advocate for better treatment and pay for the BLACK Porn stars and advocate for a section of the pornography industry that is equally instructional and educational as they are also for just sexual titillating. I want to see films made that teach about safe sex in an open, legitimate and ongoing Way so the people who watch pornography [or sexually explicit films] can emulate them by only taking on safe-sex behaviors. This I feel Will help save lives as people replicate behaviors that are safe instead of some of the behaviors that are presently featured in porn that are very unsafe. I also want to see safe sex {such as always using condoms} and less liberal sharing of body fluids in the general public and one Way to get there is to press for these conditions as an Advocate who is very concerned about the Porn industry.... There are many Black Gay porn films where they never think of putting on a condom and where body fluids flow freely. There are also many, many porn films where two people will use a condom for the entire sexual liaison and then squirt body fluids in each other's mouths. [What was the use of the condom in the first place]. I never buy films that are openly advocating bare backing or having anal sex without a condom and I have spoken out in letters to the Center for Disease Control and the Federal Health and Human Services Department about these films. . . [By the Way that doesn't make me better than you. I just happen to be a long-time advocate and someone deeply concerned about the health and well-being of the Black man and Black woman and our whole Black Family. If you are going to enjoy pornography and you are a so-called ``Christian'' it seems to me that this is the correct thing to do. Let's face it, NOT using and enjoying pornography for the average Black Gay man is like asking a Catholic woman NOT to use birth control. {Yeah, sure right, I don't think so!!!--Is the obvious response to such a request from the Catholic Church or The Pope or whoever…} The reality is that this is the 21st Century it is the year 2013 and times are changing and have changed drastically from the 1950's when there was very little venereal disease and nothing at all called HIV… People, back in those days, were scandalized by even the thought of getting an STD and there were no health clinics to go get a shot to make one better and heal. You had to visit your family doctor in shame, and if you were young, your Mom or Dad had better NOT find out about it. You would probably get a spanking or some other punishment and be very ashamed of yourself if you were a teen in such a situation…
It is time we stopped looking at the porn industry and the porn actors as a bunch of dirty, thithey, NASTY people and realized that most of the stars at least are just out to make money and the only thing they know to make money from is their bodies and using them in porn films or as hustlers…. That goes for men, women and transgendered people also. Most of them will never be rich because they are exploited and taken advantage of economically by the Porn industry. {There are a few exceptions to this rule. One of them is Tiger Tyson, who is a Porn Star who has His own production company and must make upwards of $17 Million Dollars a year by some estimations...} If many Porn stars had the skills and opportunities to make something better of themselves than Porn Stars they would probably do so. I know this is true. The industry itself, the Porn Industry, has connections to legitimate media in many, many ways. Some of the same businessmen who own the Big named media like CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, MSNBC, TNT, TBS, PBS, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, The Los Angeles Times and even The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia Daily News, also have connections to the profit making system within the Porn Industry--so we ALL need to stop looking down our noses at the Porn Industry and help it clean itself up from some of the more unsavory and seamier aspects of itself. Opting for more options is one avenue to take in doing so. This Way people who watch Porn will stop or lessen their emulation of what they see so much of in Porn such as carrying on very unhealthy sexual behaviors like NOT USING CONDOMS AND ACTIVELY AND OPENLY SHARING BODY FLUIDS... This is very important and needs to happen right away, like RIGHT NOW!!
To make another point, the racism and sexually abusive behaviors in Porn material is ramped. I was watching one video [The Show, Part One and The Show Part 2] where, at the opening of the film people are coming through the front door to be greeted at a large, expensive mansion. One Black men is asked ``You Don't you have a gun on You DO You?,'' ``or are you carrying a knife,'' while the White gentleman is told ``Oh, A White Guy,'' with great enthusiasm and mirth. That says it all. Whiteness is celebrated and Blackness is still chastised even in the Porn Industry... Also one Black gentleman, in a sex contest, chooses a Black person for what is called his ``winning fuck'' at the end of the film. The narrator says he ``brutally pounded'' the other Brother. I can just imagine that if He [The Brother] would have chosen a White Boy for is ``winning fuck'', the narrator would have said ``they really seem to be enjoying each other.'' Interesting semantics...
Of course, one could argue there are more pornographic aspects of ``Jersey Shore'' on MTV than there is on regular Porn flicks. At least the Porn flicks, some of them at least, don't feature people overtly physically fighting and REALLY being straight-forward and overt in their verbal and physical abuse and violence like they do on the delectable ``Jersey Shore.'' With some of the newer Porn I have seen ads for {But I would NEVER buy} they do feature more overt sexual acts which are overtly abusive and include men having sex with other men without using condoms and actually eating and consuming male body fluids. There is a real need, in my estimation, for much more concern and regulation of the Porn Industry on the part of the federal government...
There is one porn star named Tiger Tyson who is featured in many Black Gay Porn movies. One thing I can say for Tiger is that he always wears condoms. That is about all I have to say good about him. Otherwise, he is very abusive to the people he has sex with. {There is even a scene in ``Bottom's Up'' where he is abusive to T-Malone as if He [Tiger] were an abusive prison guard or cop.} They are mostly Black men and Tiger is Puerto Rican {Which is a mix of White, Black and Native or Indian}... I have heard rumors that Tiger is actually straight with a wife and children. I noticed that He never treats any of His sexual partners with much tenderness, always slapping them on the ass and NEVER really kissing or caressing them}... Maybe he is married to a female, I mean.
I personally find Tiger's behavior very reprehensible, pugnacious and egocentric. I really find His character a negative one.
The Important aspect of ALL this, I believe, is to bring integrity to the industry and bring on more diversity of choices....
