There is a vegetarian Restaurant at Broad and South Street, GOvinda's, that has some very delectable food.... I mean to tell you that the food is really good..... The Chicken salad doesn't have ANY chicken in it at all (I believe it is made with a vegetable protean product) It taste great. This is a great place to go if you want to stay away from the fattening foods at MacDonald's and other Fast Food restaurants, who are owned by BIG CORPORATIONS who just want to take our money and care nothing about health and healthy nutrition.....

RE: BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT THAT WILL MAKE YOU MONEY & SOLVE THE HARD-KNOCK, SYSTEMIC AND FORMERLY ON-GOING PROBLEMS OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY NATIONALLY.

Are you two fellows still shopping at Finger Hut.........  It all boils down to a chicken in every pot. By the Way you should know I have a chicken boiling as I write this. I spend time teaching my people how to fend for themselves and do for themselves, not beg--but instead forage through the tough inner-city terrain for ability to solve their own problems, attain the proper education to get jobs, and move forward--not asking others for money who have successfully foraged for themselves. As Black People lay down their OUTDATED armaments of protest, demonstration and demanding money and resources from politicians who are in pocket of financial leaders from other communities--namely White Center City, Jewish and Asian interests--it is time to change course & think. We must realize the Clinton's were not joking when they said ``It's the Economy...'' Reality sets in.

We as Black People need to stop playing Hockey with broken sticks. This hockey is not OUR game. We, as Black People, are much better at Football and Basketball. We need to leave Hockey--the public sector and solving our problems through politicians alone--we need to leave hockey alone. Let's get on our Football and Basketball gear and Win one for the future of our children. While hundreds of Black Parents fight year after year for better public schools--finding their fight as futile as building sand castles in torrential rain--wealthier Black parents send their children to top-Flight private schools and ensure their children's Place in a secured, comfortable, private-sector future where jobs pay upwards of $80,000.00 to $300,000.00 a year & include lavish corporate benefits, an expense account, use of a corporate jet and networking with hundreds of other executives who have similar goals & aspirations.

Certainly, the Private sector--Big Business, Modest-sized businesses and small businesses are part of the solution when we as Black People manage to keep our Progressive & Revolutionary political Goals in sight as we build sustainability and community cohesiveness into our motto and corporate mission. It can be done. Most Black People in Business small businesses located near where they live. Such businesses can be linked together to save money and buy marketable goods in bulk, wholesale to save on overhead costs. But it is precisely involvement from Black People with their inherent concern for the Black Community's interests that will help bring the private sector more in line with the ultimate perfection that we all seek, but that has remained elusive. The more Black People involved in Big Business, or any business that we can help in setting the tone for and bring forth our own ideas about ethics, fair play, justice, equality and the sharing of wealth and resources--this is specifically part of the African Community-hunter-gather genome. But we have to be more bold and forthright about what we believe and the justice inherent in what we believe. We can't just stand up when it is easy among our friends. We have to talk about what we believe even when people outside of our little so-called clicks are present. This should NOT be viewed as a threat to the established order or Status Quo, but a means through which the powers-that-be effectively negotiate and lay down a Peaceful Path to walk on that is rooted in a positive reality that leads to bounty and prosperity for this entire world and ALL Her people.

 

We start by being real with ourselves and end the game-playing.  We start by listening to our elders as much as we listen to our iphones and ipads. We start by dealing forthrightly and openly and honestly with our addictions and overcoming them on a daily basis.  We start by ending the silliness of being fearful of getting the help and therapy we need. We start by taking responsibility for the children we have and helping our youth understand that it is best to have children when we are in our 30's instead of our teens and 20's. We start by bringing ALL our members of the community together and not leaving out the Muslims; the Gays and Lesbians; the Quakers; the left-handed people; the academicians; the disenfranchised; or those who have a record of homelessness, foreclosure or a criminal record.

Our Black disenfranchised People--at a point right now of almost foraging for food to feed their families--often want a better life, but don't understand--sometimes because they are continually lied to or continually lie to themselves--they don't understand the Way to attaining this life is through quiet, consistent study of books like: ``Top 100 Careers without a Four-Year Degree'' by Michael Farr--not in the long line to buy lottery tickets, the line to buy bar-B-Q Potato Chips, the line to buy 40 oz. beer, the line to buy a cigarette and -- I have to say it--breaking The Ghetto mentality that says we can't do the best for ourselves when we have a good record of doing just that. Our productive, faithful, dedicated, and positive-thinking record is not shown to us on the late night news. This is what is keeping us back. It is not necessarily our own doing all the time, but we must get on board of helping ourselves and our fellow Sisters and Brothers instead of backbiting, being negative and not thinking in terms of broad solutions instead of ourselves only.  It is not our lack of ability or our lack of willingness that is the real problem. It is our leaders' lack of ability to not take the O-Key-doke money from outside our community.  Was it really worth fighting, in the 2012 election cycle, fighting the Republicans over the cost of a $5.00 annual National Voting identification card when many people of little means spend $80.00 a month on well-advertised lottery tickets that have VERY LITTLE IMPACT ON SOLVING THE FORMERLY SYSTEMIC PROBLEMS OF OUR BLACK COMMUNITY? WHY COULDN'T WE GET THE IDENTIFICATION CARD AND SET UP A FUND FOR PEOPLE WHO JUST DON'T HAVE THE MONEY AND GET ONTO IMPORTANT ISSUES--all of which can be solved within our own Black Community with and through the development of a better value system, the support and development of our Black Businesses, and quiet surgical boycotts of stores and businesses that either won't hire Black People at a Solid Wage or who serve interest easily defined as totally opposed to those that will move our Black Community forward in a positive, proactive and on-going Way.

 

Basically we must think more positively and never give in and give up on good values, family, and what can help the entire community as opposed to just giving into forces that only want to hold us back and never let us move forward. I am sick of being held back and I can see those o-key-doke forces more and more plainly and clearly each and every day.  I can only speak for myself, but I'm angry about it when I see our children in school expected to not achieve; when I see our Black males fall victim to crime and police intolerance; and when I see us giving up and just laying back with a 40 oz beer instead of getting the backbone and stamina we need to work with each other in a positive Way to bring on the Bounty and plenty we all deserve.

 

It is obvious that the established business order is not interested in refurbishing the inner cities--or at least that is what we see right now.  We need to take on this duty ourselves.  We can do it because there are progressive Banks now and Black Banks and Credit Unions that will help.  Linking these forces together in a positive Way and forging ahead will not be easy, but this is doable.  I hope you will contact me if you want to do such work.  I have had an advertisement in the BLack Enterprise magazine for about four years, in such an effort to do just that--and things are running on schedule.  If you think it has been easy, I have another story to tell you--it has NOT been easy.  Write me with your community-owned ideas and I will link you up with other forces who are doing other similar things. This is an exciting and wonderful time we live in.  It can also be a bit different because people have fear.  But we can rely on each other as Black People and on the Strength and Power of GOD, the indigenous among us & our Ancient African Ancestors for strength and the ability to see a new DAY!!

Mickee Dee!! What UP!!??

Dear Good Brothers and Sisters: I have volunteered to help the MOVE Organization in the PHILADELPHIA area to act on a boycott of McDonald's. I know what you are going to say: Why McDonald's? There are plenty of other criminals selling us fast food that is killing us as well!!! This is true, but in the successful movements, you have to target your points and fine tune your message. You can't go after everybody. The reasons why we have selected McDonald's is that:

* McDonald's is really harming and victimizing animals in the way they kill stock for meat for burgers.

* McDonald's is very intransigent in the way they don't respond positively to customer complaints and suggestions about new products that are less fatty, salty, sugary, dangerous, and filled with pesticides. There are easy alternatives, but McDonald's keeps pumping out the same old stuff that is killing our people with High Blood Pressure; Heart Disease; Sugar Diabetes; Cancer and on and on. It is time to take a stand.

* McDonald's is responsible for on average of about 6 % of ALL the trash in the Whole Northern United States. They need to use less paper in their packaging and more environmentally purposeful packaging to lessen trash and the multitudes of trash that they are spreading across our Nation and the world.

* We also chose McDonald's because they are such an open target and because they are ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! They have a waiting line to get a franchise and it still cost over a million dollars to wreak this havoc on the people. It has to end and they need to be dragged, kicking and screaming if need be, into the future... A future that is more humane, decent, loving, kind, receptive, respectful, understanding and able to care for people instead of just seeing people as open wallets to be exploited.

* The MOVIE``Super Sizer Me'' really points out the health risks of eating at McDonald's on a regular basis. The director of the film eats at McDonald's for a period of time and finds his health going South steadily. { his liver practically turns to jelly} The film is a documentation about the real health risks of eating Double Quarter Pounders; Greasy fries; milk shakes; cokes; greasy piece-meal fish sandwiches covered with tarter sauce; sugary cookies and other items that Black, Latin and Poor White families across the Nation are stuffing down their children. IT HAS TO STOP SOMEWHERE!!!

* One Last Note: A Lot of People didn’t notice when the University of Pennsylvania Hospital closed the MacDonalds at Children’s Hospital. We DID!!!.... This proves that the food is NOT suitable for children who are trying to get better in the HOSPITAL—WHY IS IT EVER USEFUL OR HEALTHFUL AT ALL IF IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF PENN HOSPITAL’S CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL COMPLEX?????

Knowledge Hut Business Plan...

A. Name of Company: The Knowledge Hut Stores.

B. Mission Statement and Objectives:

Mission Statement: The Mission of the Knowledge Hut Stores is to help younger Americans of Color to better understand their history, grow and develop as more productive and reliable adults and learn better ethical behavior through the development, production and sale of positive, defined and responsible products.

Objectives: To help parents, guardians, grandparents and others who care for youth to assist them in developing strong personal and community-wide values including responsibility, good health habits and hygiene, good ethics, good family values, cleanness, reliability, good and positive cultural values and other positive traits in an on-going fashion through the sale of good products that reflect those values. While we are a for profit store, we will network with non-profits and social service agencies to bring on more support services for needy Non-White youths.

RE: ``The Knowledge Hut Stores'' and Why We Need Them.....

It has come to my knowledge, more and more over the years, that our young people are in deep trouble. Unless we act as responsible and concerned adults, they are doomed to create another generation of lost souls who are down and out economically and unprepared morally, ethically, culturally and politically for what faces them in a few short years.

This is why I have labored so hard to create the concept of ``The Knowledge Hut Stores'' and why I think the concept will be a Big Success when it goes National very soon.

The concept is a simple one: Instead of throwing a whole bunch of assorted products at young people when they come to shop, why not give them a selection of products that are designed to stimulate their thinking; develop the mind and body correctly; spark learning; and develop good strong family values and strong positive study habits in them including better eating habits.

What we would like to sell to our young people is music and videos with positive messages and positive images; Tee-Shirts that are developed to make people think of positive things and that are designed, drawn, written and developed by the young people themselves; food snacks and drinks that are healthy and exclude white flour, potato chips, soda and too much sugar, salt and fat; greeting cards with inspirational and funny sayings in them that are written and designed by the youths themselves that reflect strong positive political and cultural values; and plenty of books that reflect the same values and also describe and create roads to self-awareness, self-reliance, honor, holistic thinking, sharing progressive ideas, interacting positively with elders, other young people and other members of the community with respect, decency and humanity, and teach our history, languages and culture in a positive and upbeat Way.

Executive Summary

We have registered our company name ``The Knowledge Hut'' Stores with Go.Daddy Network. Eventually we want to be an LLC. We are planning to copyright our idea within the next few days. We have done some test marketing through our Parent company--BTGandA.Com--and we are operating a mail order firm right now. We are low on funds to develop our Tee-Shirts and buy other products right now. Our Mission is to instill positive values in young people by helping them choose more politically conscious and ethical products.

Our company came about when our founder recognized a need to curtail the negative impact some of the more lured rap music and rap videos were having on American inner city and suburban youth. We will be selling Tee-Shirts, greeting cards, books and posters chosen by our staff to reflect and promote better values in youth. Those values include: doing homework; not bullying; having respect for parents and elders; avoiding teen pregnancy and STD's; and staying out of trouble with the law. We also hope to have outreach information in our stores from the youth service network, churches and Non-profit organizations that work on youth issues such as staying in school, attending college or university and starting youth-run businesses.

Our target market is youth and young adults, ages 12 through 27 and their parents, grandparents and guardians. Market trends show that church-going parents are looking for products to purchase that will enhance and support family and church values, and there is an obvious need to increase business knowledge and political awareness among young people. We have circulated a petition and generated 30 signatures from people who support the concept of ``The Knowledge Hut'' stores and the community seems ready for the positive change. Few stores of any size are offering only products that encourage better values in young customers so competition at this point is null.

I think we can compete successfully, especially if we can get on Board with Macy's because they have hundreds of stores Nationwide. {We have written letters of intent to possible investors about actually having our stores within Macy's network}. While we have not actually officially approached Macy's as yet, we think their up-beat, youth oriented specialty shops would be perfect for our stores and well suited for our idea. We have written General Mills about carrying their Nature valley Granola Bars. {We do not want to sell potato chips, sodas and Twinkies which hamper young people's energy level by providing too many empty calories and too much sugar}. There could be barriers if someone beats us to the punch and gets investors or gets a major similar contract before we do.

Our concept designer has sound business experience, having worked at Macy's, Sears, Gimbals and Staples as a cashier; and having test marketed some products that will be sold at The Knowledge Hut at our Parent company--Brother Tracy Gibson and Associates, INc.... Brother Gibson has also taken some business courses at Temple University and with the Money School in Wilmington and New Castle, Delaware. We did the test marketing from April 2006 to September 2007. Our key manager will be our concept designer, Brother Tracy Gibson, until we can get funding and hire additional staff.

We want to have 15 locations and about 300 employees. We also want to manufacture our own products in the United States and provide shipping and handling at a reasonable cost. At the same time, however, we want to pay all employees good wages and have suitable benefits available for employees, as we can afford. According to reliable Internet sources most book stores reach about $ 3 Million Dollars in annual sales for each store. Since we will sell other products besides books, we project about $5 Million a year in sales for each store. The total income from all 15 stores would be $60,000,000 {Sixty Million Dollars a year.}

We are seeking $15 Million Dollars in startup funds through about five investors. The funds will be used to buy, modernize and refurbish existing property and hire staff. Investors will get their funds back.

Dear Sister Lomax: I Hope and Pray you are having a great week. I want to first thank you and the incredible staff at WURD for the wonderful work you all do in helping our Black Community to think in a more advanced, Positive and Progressive manner and Way.  I want to suggest a few things to the radio station and its' Board. One is to start a message  call-in system where, for a fee, business-minded Brothers and Sisters call in to have reminders e-mailed to them. The other is very important. I would like us as Black activists to do something important and long overdo--some long-term planning. I know we, as a People, have, for a long time been reactive. Something happens like a Black child gets killed by the police and we re-act and have a protest, a court hearing and a demonstration. But what has really, basically changed? What about sitting down and talking to leading police officers, city council People and the Mayor about reaching agreements about how our children are to be treated in any and all circumstances by police authorities? What about some of the other problems we are having in the community like a real lack of ownership of factories in the City of Brotherly LOVe; A lack if ownership of a solid business area designated for Black People so we can be decent human beings and shop and support ourselves and have our own stable and on-going economic foundation and base? [Without this we will continue to flounder and never get our goals met. The Politicians are not going to adhere to our wishes and demands without this. I and others are proponents of Black Business People  and Black vendors having 52nd Street as such an area for Our People.] When we have an officially designated area for our People to support ourselves economically, we will have a base of economic support to grow from and solve our own problems instead of always relying on City Council and the Mayor, who may or may not be as responsive as we would like them to be, depending on how much financial support is available. I hate to mention names and be critical, but Reverend Al Sharpton is great for re-acting to a ``hot problem'' and channeling every body's excitement, but what is being done to examine the root causes of our problems and finding lasting, systemic and effective solutions? This, I feel, is really needed. Long term solutions and long-term planning for systemic, critical and even ``hot topic'' problems... This is how we begin to solve our problems in a Way that lasts generations. For example: Our young People need a common, safe place where they can get together, talk and interact positively and peacefully with some of the older people in the Black community. Take off the ``hot button'' cell phones and ipods and slow down and listen to some Black Elders who have been around for a while and can give reasonable advice that is proven through time and effort to move us forward and help us all, while creating peace, harmony, understanding and a stronger financial base for us to grow from... Such a growing, positive financial base would also be helpful for us to grow and develop our business ideas and generate success stories from.  This is a real and proven solution for many of our problems. This simple process would begin to really take away some of the ``heat'' from our problems and begin a healing, rejuvenation and restoration process that will go very far in us helping us. When I was Vice President of the Walnut Hill Community Association, [Walnut Hill reaches from 45th Street in the East to 52nd Street in the West and from Spruce Street in the South and Market Street in the North.]. At Walnut Hill we were working towards just such a program of cross-generational sharing to help build stability and healing within our community. As far as I know it never got off the ground. I am willing to come on the radio [As A Black Same Gender Loving Man or Black Gay man and community organizer] and discuss solving our problems in a long term manner. This is crucial for us as Black folks because otherwise we are just putting our fires out with a leaky, rusty can of water. I know we can do better than that!! When we build our own Black economic base that is looked at with enthusiasm by the larger community in Philadelphia--looked at as a job creator, a center for self help and self reliance and not just looked at as a threat--we will have championed the real North American dream and made this long-overdue dream a reality...  One other problem that needs tending to is the fact that community activists such as myself, have to work with literally no financial support. I work about 10 hours a day because I often stay up late at night working--sometimes less, sometimes more.  I am very dedicated to the work I do and I enjoy it, but it is often very difficult without financial support to buy things like computer cartridges; pens; recycled paper; reference books that are not available at the library; and pay for rent. It is very difficult to make it on the little money I get in disability payments from Social Security--and about $400.00 more dollars a month is totally legal and will be reported to Social Security Disability by me....  Not having enough money for the vital and significant work I do--work that often has national and international importance--is very frustrating.  I have written Black Male and Black Female leaders before about  presenting a formula that will create a financial reality that feeds into our Black activists community in a positive and on-going Way so our important work can get done easier.  I am not only advocating this for myself, but for ALL Black activists who have proven themselves and proven their work to be effective. Please let me know if there is anything at all me or my company can do to make these ideas realities.  My father, Mr. Charles S. Gibson, was a workaholic and I am afraid I have turned out similarly.
